Property to let

Bolton Abbey

The core of the Bolton Abbey Estate is its built assets, a mixed portfolio of residential, commercial and agricultural property. Although some property is retained from which trading activities are managed and operated, the majority is let through a range of short and long term leases. While some houses are occupied by staff, most are either let on the open market or included in farm tenancies, many of which have diversified, including Hesketh Farm Park and Billy Bob’s Parlour.  Commercial property is varied ranging from a C15th tithe barn, operated as a wedding venue, to heavy industrial, such as a tarmac coating plant.

Chatsworth

The let property on the Chatsworth Estate is varied and extensive comprising a residential portfolio of over 400 houses and cottages across the estate villages, many of which are listed buildings of historical and architectural merit; an agricultural tenanted estate of 23,000 acres let to over 45 farmers on dairy, arable and livestock units, some of whom supply meat and other products to the award-winning Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop; and a mixed commercial portfolio comprising pubs and hotels, holiday cottages and B&Bs, caravan parks, garden centre, quarries, office, industrial and retail. In addition, the estate provides community facilities such as sports fields, allotment gardens and village halls, together with many miles of permissive footpaths across the estate for the public to enjoy.

Lismore

Although the Castle is at the heart of the Estate, it also includes a modest portfolio of residential, commercial and agricultural property. While some land is retained, much of it is let to tenant partners operating their own farm businesses. Residential property is either leased on the open market or occupied by staff. The commercial portfolio comprises some interesting idiosyncrasies, such as a range of community benefitting assets let to Waterford County Council, including a canal that was built to construct the Castle and an outdoor swimming pool created in the River Owenashad.

Compton Estate

The estate office at Compton Place is the base for the Agent and the Estate Secretary, for the Compton Estate and interests in Eastbourne. The group remain committed to many of the local bodies, be they charitable or sporting. The Duke of Devonshire remains president of the Royal Eastbourne Golf Course, the Eastbourne Saffrons Sports Club, the Eastbourne Bowling Club and Eastbourne College.  Lord Burlington is President of the Eastbourne Historical Society and the Eastbourne Society, a role he took over from his grandfather the 11th Duke, who was in his later years appointed as a Freeman of the Town.

Compton Place is now let to a language school and is not open to the public.

Property development

ttThe Devonshire Property Group seeks to deliver its property development interests by either obtaining planning permission and then selling the development site onto a development partner, working in joint venture with other specialist development companies, or building and managing the projects in-house.  The range of developments is extensive and includes both residential and commercial.  In addition the Property Group is responsible for the management of the Group’s investment portfolio and, via Devonshire Property (Retail) Ltd, the investment and management of Peak Village, Rowsley.

Residential

Devonshire Property Group is promoting a range of residential development opportunities, from small sites of less than ten homes, to large scale regeneration projects of 650 or more homes.  Key among these is the forthcoming development of up to 650 new homes at Mastin Moor in north east Chesterfield.  This project will see not only the construction of new homes, but a new local centre, accommodation for the elderly, substantial new publicly accessible parkland and a Construction Skill Hub to train the future workforce.  Work is expected to commence on-site in late 2022.

Commercial

The Group has two key projects ongoing to provide new employment space in the Chesterfield area.

Hartington Business Park, Staveley, Chesterfield

The Devonshire Property Group has now completed the first phase of Hartington Business Park with Practical Completion being reached on this new construction and speculative 22,832sqft/6-unit light industrial scheme on the 24 April 2023.  The development offers six new units across three terraces with available sizes ranging from 2,465sqft to 8,136sqft thus offering ultimate flexibility in catering for occupiers needs.

Hartington Business Park is located on the northern edge of Staveley, which is around five miles north east of Chesterfield and benefits from access to the motorway network via J30 & J29A of the M1, about three miles away from the development.

Harry Orwin-Allen in Knight Frank Sheffield’s industrial team said: “There is a distinct lack of supply for good quality industrial spaces, particularly under 10,000sqft and this speculative development delivered by Devonshire Property Group will prove attractive to occupiers seeking high quality accommodation in the region.”
