The Devonshire Group has been recognised with a Gold Award by RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) in relation to its approach to managing colleague and visitor health and safety in the workplace.

This non-competitive award, with around 2,000 applicants every year, is based on a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates ‘best practice’ health and safety performance and procedures.

This is the first time the Devonshire Group has applied for such an award and is thrilled to have received top honours, with award levels ranging from credit, bronze, and silver to gold, which represents ‘excellence’.

The application was assembled by the Group health and safety team over a two-month period and involved providing evidence demonstrating compliance with 60 different elements of excellent health and safety management.

The top award of Gold means the Group was able to demonstrate a very high level of performance, well-developed occupational health and safety management systems and culture, and outstanding control of risk.

Some of the evidence provided included:

– Outreach work with local communities that included safety awareness on construction sites
– A supportive colleague wellness programme, incorporating mental as well as physical health
– New and engaging ways to communicate safety messages to teams
– Extensive training and awareness around personal safety and dealing with acts of aggression at work
