Communication

It’s important for us to keep colleagues up-to-date on what’s happening across the Group through our colleague app, regular newsletters, annual briefings, team meetings and 1-2-1s.

Training and development

We support our colleagues at every level with opportunities to train and upskill, with their professional development, or through gaining additional qualifications accredited through for example the Institute of Leadership and Management.

We take the development of our people seriously, and like nothing more than to see colleagues move between departments to gain new skills (our colleagues are often multi-skilled across our businesses), gain a promotion or mentor trainees and apprentices. For us this contributes to our success and our colleagues have great stories of their development with The Devonshire Group.

We recently introduced our Devonshire Hospitality Academy to develop talent across the organisation, and we place significant effort into the development of our colleagues to ensure that we are never complacent.

What makes us a special place to work

We take pride in our warm and friendly atmosphere, where our colleagues and volunteers feel valued and empowered. Through direct feedback and our annual survey, it is clear that they enjoy their work, are passionate about their contributions, and align with our core values of always improving, decency and being inclusive. This is evident in every corner of our diverse organisation.

I couldn’t think of a better place to start my career after graduating from University. I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects which has allowed me to develop and work on different skills. The people I work with are incredible, and the commute over the rolling fields and hills isn’t bad either!

Anna, Training & Compliance Administrator

“I really enjoy range and diversity my role offers. The people I work with, both in the team and throughout the Estate, contribute to a warm, friendly atmosphere and ‘family’ culture. My role as a Vision and Values champion allows me to meet people from across the estates, to share ideas with management and colleagues which promote the core values and principles which are at the heart of the group.”

Paul, HR Systems Administrator and core values department champion

“Russell Brand, Paul Smith, Suggs from Madness and Will Young… I could go on and on about the people I’ve met in the 14 years that I’ve worked at ‘The Dev’. Helping a guest in distress to change a tyre is par for the course in concierge! We look after our guests and ensure they have a carefree stay. After 14 years I still enjoy coming to work. The great staff I work with helps too! Working at The Dev? It’s okay!”

Our values

The vision of the Devonshire Group is to benefit our heritage, our people and our shared future.

We believe in:

Always improving

Whatever we do, we strive in our own ways, big and small, to improve how we do things.

Decency

Decency is at the heart of the way every one of us behaves and acts – we understand the importance of doing the right thing.

Being inclusive

The best decisions are the ones that are inclusive; strengthening the relationships we have with both our colleagues and people outside our enterprises.

Diversity in action and behaviour

To us, Being Inclusive means diversity in action and behaviour. Diversity is the mix of people, being inclusive is about actively advocating for that mix and taking tangible steps that lead to meaningful and lasting change. In an inclusive and diverse environment, everyone can contribute to making great business decisions and team performance by reflecting, respecting and relating to our colleagues, volunteers, customers, visitors and communities.

We advocate inclusion and we celebrate diversity. We ensure that each employee feels welcome, respected and able to be their true self at work; we believe when this happens, our colleagues can achieve their full potential.

A greener Devonshire Group

With a spirit of stewardship inherent to life on our estates, we recognise our responsibility to address the new sustainability challenges of our time, such as climate change, natural resource scarcity, and enhanced threats to wildlife diversity and habitat.

Sustainability is a way of thinking, adopted at all levels of the Devonshire Group. As with our vision and values, sustainability can be seen in the actions and ideas of our people. It is our colleagues and volunteers who are the driving force behind delivering meaningful change.
